About the Shivers

The Shivers is the first game created by Pop Fiction Games, a family-owned independent publisher. We believe that tabletop games can ignite a child-like spark of magic and mystery, as well as bring people of all ages together. But with the chaos of our modern lives, few have time to sit through endless pages of complex rules and gameplay that drags on without end. We want to help create the most magical one hour of your day.

That’s why our games are designed to be easily understood, set up quickly, and conjure a rich range of emotions. Our patented pop-up game environments command the attention of everyone at the table, and allow for completely new ways to interact with your adventure. Because we at Pop Fiction Games are storytellers at heart, artists by trade, and gamers since childhood.

We are also looking to the future, creating ways to expand the universe of The Shivers, as well as developing totally new pop-up adventures to ignite that spark of magic within your gaming group. Stay tuned for more!

How it all Started

Being a designer, Andy is always coming up with creative new ideas. This time, he wanted a game experience that could infuse his young family with feelings of magic and mystery — a feeling he was trying to recreate from his early days watching friends play D&D. Not finding a game that fit their needs, he visited a local bookstore and was hit with a stroke of inspiration: a pop-up you can play!
Andy taught himself how to make crude pop-ups, created a full set of three-dimensional rooms in a haunted house, and set about writing a few stories for his kids to play. His family loved playing, their friends loved playing, their class loved playing, even serious gamers at a local game shop loved playing.
That’s when he knew he had to take the next steps: hiring professional illustrators, paper engineers, and writers — and using Kickstarter to fund it all! The rest is history, but the story is just beginning. Follow us @TheShiversGame to see how this ongoing adventure is unfolding!
